Whether you are a cancer patient, survivor, newly diagnosed, in treatment, gathering strength or thriving, yoga can further your recovery and sense of well-being, both physically and emotionally. yoga4cancer (y4c) is a methodology designed specifically to address the needs of cancer patients and survivors.
A y4c class is created to:
• build strength and regain mobility
• stimulate the immune system through breath and movement
• build bone density
• promote spine health
• detox the body
• calm the nervous system
• cultivate a sense of well-being and community
y4c includes breath awareness practices, along with linking movement to breath. Props are used for support and accessibility, while creating a safe space for all is at the heart of the practice. Above all else, y4c gives you the opportunity to participate in your own healing process.
This FREE class is taught by Amanda O’Connor, a y4c trained teacher and made accessible to all thanks to generous donors including our friends, the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.
Class size is limited to allow for personal space and 1:1 guidance with the teacher, where appropriate. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, as this class tends to fill!
Yoga 4 Cancer is a FREE weekly class offered Tuesdays 1:00pm-2:15pm, instructed by Amanda O'Connor.

Amanda is a creative soul with a calming presence and compassionate heart. She began practicing yoga as a means of self-care while raising two young children and fell in love with the practice, along with the presence and inner peace she began to experience on and off the mat. Inspired by her teachers’ embodiment of yoga and its profound effects on her life, Amanda completed her 200-hour teacher certification with Pranotthan Yoga School in partnership with All That Matters in April 2018.
After being by her mother’s side throughout the various stages of her cancer journey, Amanda felt called to complete yoga4cancer (y4c) 45-hour teacher training in March 2019, so she could offer yoga to those in treatment, recovery, and beyond. She was introduced to Reiki and witnessed its positive effects while her mother received Reiki during her chemotherapy infusions. Currently, Amanda is a Reiki Master, offering Reiki weekly at the infusion unit at South County Health Cancer Center and private sessions at All That Matters Yoga + Wellness.
Amanda leads her yoga practice from the heart and encourages students to listen to and honor the voice within. She creates a safe, supportive, nurturing space for students to experience yoga with an emphasis on cultivating awareness, self-compassion, and union between body, breath, and mind. Amanda is dedicated to living fully with a grateful heart and sharing her passion for yoga, Reiki, and mindful living with others.

Yoga 4 Cancer (y4c) is an evidence-informed Oncology Yoga method tailored to address the specific physical and emotional needs left by cancer and cancer treatments. This approach matches breath and movement to stimulate the immune system, improve flexibility and strength, reduce anxiety and boost overall wellbeing.
This mat based class is led by a y4c trained instructor who offers mindful and supportive transitions, variations given with consideration for the short and long-term side effects from cancer treatment, and the use of props throughout the class such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, yoga straps and the wall. Each class includes guided breathing practices, a thoughtfully sequenced warm up, strengthening and balance poses that encourage participants to honor their energy and ability levels, and ample opportunity for restoration and relaxation.
A chair can be provided as an additional prop; however, this class is generally taught and practiced on yoga mats. To fully receive the benefits of this class, it is recommended that participants be able to maneuver themselves up and down from the floor throughout the practice with relative ease.
If you are looking for a chair based class, ATMY+W offers a FREE community Chair Yoga class on Fridays at 12:30pm, learn more + pre-register here.
Please bring your yoga mat, water, and wear comfortable clothing. All props are provided and you are welcome to bring any of your own. Arrive early so you can meet your instructor and discuss any specific needs or concerns you may have. Pre-registration is recommended.
