~ Mahatma Gandhi
Our dear friend and teacher, Jenn Thomas founded the Feeding Families Project in 2020, an evolving engagement with food, hunger, support, kindness and so much more.
The idea emerged to help some families through the winter months when it became clear the Covid19 pandemic wasnt shifting in any appreciable way and people were suffering with food insecurity.
It’s 2024 and things have shifted. Unfortunately that shift hasn’t significantly included those who live at the edge of poverty. Programs have been cut, access is actually more challenging, utilities and rent have skyrocketed but disability & low level employment wages and opportunity have not. The identified recipients came through health clinics, nurse case managers, as well as several people in the undocumented immigrant community in South Kingstown & Providence.
Major conflicts are everywhere, attitudes of entitlement are abundant & nasty!
It’s so easy to look elsewhere and forget those in our Rhode Island community
who barely get by.
I want to remember them and help some of them…real people helping real people
get by everyday.
It takes real effort to support one another, to not judge the recipient, to not judge ourselves, to show up, to share, to feel! It takes softening our hearts and feeling the pain of what we see to open the gates of compassion & act - here are the hearts true colors. Together so much love and care makes a big difference one person, one family at a time.
Big organizations do some really great work (so support them!) YET some percentage of those dollars always goes to administering their initiatives and many real people unintentionally fall through the cracks.
One of my wishes in this endeavor is to deepen connection on all levels of the journey, to recognize the suffering of food insecurity, to awaken our collective compassion & compassionate action. One thing I’ve learned in the past three years of asking, receiving, distributing, and asking again & again is that personal, loving connection is equally important - to NOT feel forgotten. THIS is real too.
It matters in MY heart - it asks me show up.
-Jenn Thomas

Donations will be distributed to a small number of families in need. (6-20 families) through the Feeding Families Project spearheaded by Jenn Thomas & volunteers from the greater Providence and South Kingstown communities.
These families are identified by medical low income & Free clinics/nurse case managers or other affiliated personnel.

When they receive financial support dedicated to specific they have immediately used it for that purpose and offered the receipts. It is heartwarming but also makes one aware that sadly these folks live under a cloud of distrust by the world and they live by their word, graciously accepting the help.
Another way to help is to sponsor a family. You might gather a group of friends or join together as a community to dedicate your collective dollars to sponsor one family. Maybe you work for a company that will match donations!
ATMY+W has set up an easy way to donate funds that will be dedicated to the Feeding Families Project.
Giving the gift of your time is a beautiful way to serve. Offering to pick up food from food drive locations, sort food for monthly delivery, help deliver food & resources, fundraise, explore partnerships/collaborations for larger scale donations, i.e: food purveyors and local farms for fresh food & more cost efficient access to resource

She received her 200-hour certification with Tom Gillette, became a leader for Off the Mat/Into the World with Seane Corn, was a dedicated student of Yin/Yang practices with Sarah Powers' Insight Yoga Institute for many years and additionally completed a 500hr certification with Maya Breuer of Santosha Yoga. Jenn has had the opportunity to study & practice with many brilliant & skillful Yoga masters over these years and is deeply grateful for the wisdom these teachers have shared and the influence they have had on her own ever deepening practice.
Jenn is also a longtime artist and teacher (painting and glass), a two-time small business owner, and a life coach. She is developing and deepening practices that integrate yoga, Buddhism, and spiritual psychology.
In yoga class, Jenn encourages a strong awareness of the flow of breath and movement, as well as deep attention to the body and its individual alignments. Practice ignites prana, balances yin and yang energies, and brings forth the stillness and joy within. Jenn's way of weaving language and poetry into the fabric of each class draws us into the heart of who we truly are and the beauty of being alive - on and off the mat.
